Purpose of the Role:

The British High Commission Islamabad is seeking to recruit an experienced Digital and Design Officer (EO grade) to join the Social Media team within the Communications Section. This is a specialist, career oriented role that plays a central part in delivering high quality digital communications and visual storytelling in support of the BHC’s strategic communications, public diplomacy, and reputational objectives.

The Digital and Design Officer will provide specialist digital, photography, videography, and design expertise, supporting the Head of Social Media in planning, capturing, producing, publishing, and analysing content across the BHC’s four social media platforms (X, Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram), which currently reach an audience of approximately 563,000 and continue to grow. The role will also support the creation and management of content for the High Commissioner’s social media accounts, ensuring accuracy, professionalism, and alignment with UK Government priorities and values.

Social media content produced by the team is a key soft diplomacy tool, used to tell the story of the UK’s policy, development, and bilateral work in Pakistan, and to shape and safeguard the UK’s image in Pakistan and with the Pakistani diaspora in the UK. The post holder will take a lead role, within their area of specialist expertise, in identifying, capturing, and delivering impactful digital content, including during high level ministerial visits, senior official engagements, and major BHC events. This will involve direct interaction with senior UK and partner officials to secure appropriate content opportunities, working to tight deadlines in fast paced and high-profile environments.

This includes designing and overseeing the production of artwork and visual assets for external communications and internal corporate documents such as the Country Business Plan, organisational charts, values materials, and other mission wide products. The role will additionally provide photography and videography support for internal and public facing events, ensuring outputs consistently meet agreed quality, accessibility, and branding standards.

The Digital and Design Officer will work alongside a team of Communications professionals, reporting to the Head of social media, with work quality assured by the Head of Section. The post supports Communications’ role as an Enabler to the wider mission by providing responsive, professional, and specialist digital and design support across the British High Commission.
