GIZ Pakistan hiring Climate Change Advisor at Islamabad.
Details are as follows:

Location: Islamabad

Qualification & Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Disaster Management, Environmental Science, Risk Management, or related fields.
  • Minimum 5 years in climate or security risk management, with a strong affinity to operate interdisciplinarity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the implementation of inclusive policies and procedures in the assigned area of responsibility to avoid systematic biases or discrimination
  • Actively engage in on-going self-reflection and continue to advance their knowledge and skills related to diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Support the integration and operationalization gender and diversity aspects in project planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation and reporting
  • Foster collaboration between the Climate Change Cluster (ECCC) and the Risk Management Office (RMO)
  • Align climate and security initiatives with organizational objectives and global best practices.
  • Conduct climate, disaster and security risk assessments, identifying vulnerabilities and mitigation strategies
  • Technical lead in facilitating agreed-upon deliverables of ECC&JTC-RMO collaboration in scenario analyses, early-warning and highlighting portfolio opportunities
  • Provide actionable recommendations for climate and disaster risk reduction to protect staff, assets, and operations
  • Develop and update risk management frameworks and crisis response plans
  • Develop a climate-security risk assessment matrix for vulnerable areas where the organization operates
  • Facilitate collaboration between the Global Initiative on Disaster Risk Management (GIDRM), ECC&JTC and RMO to address emerging risks from climate change and natural hazards
  • Engage with stakeholders, including government agencies, donors, and academia
  • Establish collaboration with GIZ offices in other countries engaged in the climate-security nexus to facilitate the exchange of best practices and effective implementation approaches
  • Support the development of policies and SOPs for managing climate, disaster and security risks
  • Guide projects in implementing localized safety, security, and risk reduction measures incl. climate change adaptation measures
  • Conduct site assessments and ensure operational readiness through drills and safety protocols
  • Provide a complete framework for integrating climate and disaster risk considerations into existing and upcoming projects, tailored to the unique hazards of each region.
  • Organize training sessions and workshops on climate, disaster and security risk management for staff
  • Build partnerships with external agencies, donors, and research institutions for enhanced collaboration
  • Provide technical advice to federal and provincial stakeholders on risk management integration
  • Develop engaging content for staff to raise awareness about the climate-security nexus, including infographics, explainer videos, discussion guides, and real-world examples from the organization’s areas of operation
  • Oversee biannual scenario analyses and annual retrospectives on climate-security risks
  • Ensure timely dissemination of security and disaster and climate-related information to all stakeholders
