Job Description:
The Art Teacher is responsible for designing and delivering inclusive art lessons that support students’ creativity, emotional expression, fine motor development, and cultural awareness. Through the use of adaptive methods and sensory-friendly materials, the Art Teacher plays a vital role in fostering self-confidence, communication, and personal growth in children with diverse learning needs.
Qualification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Art Education, or a related field.
- Training in Special Education, Art Therapy, or inclusive teaching strategies is an asset.
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in teaching art, preferably in a special education or inclusive school setting.
- Experience working with children with developmental, emotional, or sensory challenges is highly desirable.
Skills & Competencies:
- Ability to design and adapt art instruction to meet diverse learner needs.
- Creative, patient, and empathetic approach to teaching.
- Understanding of child development, sensory processing, and emotional expression through art.
- Strong classroom management and collaboration skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with students, staff, and families.
Working Conditions:
- School-based environment involving use of art materials and supervision of hands-on activities.
- Requires physical setup and cleanup of materials, and occasional assistance to students with physical or sensory needs.
- Participation in school events, exhibitions, and community engagement initiatives.

- Integration of therapeutic and developmental goals into art instruction.
- Quality and creativity of classroom displays and student exhibitions.

Job Responsibilities:
Art Instruction and Curriculum Design
- Plan and deliver structured, inclusive art lessons tailored to the cognitive, emotional, and physical abilities of students.
- Use various art media, materials, and sensory-friendly tools to stimulate creative expression and engagement.
- Modify projects and materials as needed to accommodate individual differences and sensory preferences.
Developmental and Therapeutic Support
- Collaborate with occupational therapists, psychologists, and special educators to align art activities with developmental, motor, and therapeutic goals.
- Use art as a medium for emotional expression, communication, and social connection, especially for non-verbal or emotionally challenged students.
Student Empowerment and Expression
- Encourage storytelling, emotional expression, and self-identity through visual art.
- Promote self-confidence by celebrating effort, originality, and individual progress.
Classroom Environment and Safety
- Maintain a well-organized, safe, and accessible art room that fosters exploration and creativity.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and supervision of art supplies and tools.
Display and Celebration
- Organize exhibitions, classroom displays, and school-wide art showcases to highlight student artwork.
- Celebrate each student’s creativity and unique perspective through regular visual displays and events.
Inclusion and Cultural Appreciation
- Foster appreciation of cultural diversity, heritage, and traditional art forms through classroom projects.
- Encourage collaborative art activities to promote peer interaction and social skills.
